The Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM) is the oldest non-profit organisations in Malaysia serving the professional and scientific needs of academicians, researchers, industries, and individuals in related disciplines. The society was established in 1964 by the First President, Professor Dr. A.A. Sandosham and the founding members under the auspices of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene, London with the main objectives;

1. To promote and advance research and knowledge in the field of parasitology and tropical medicine, to encourage collaboration and exchange of ideas among members
2. To disseminate information and promote public awareness on parasitic diseases and their control.

To date, MSPTM has more than 500 members affiliated with various educational institutions, private industries, government health agencies. The society has a long and rich history of promoting research, collaboration, and awareness in the field of parasitology and tropical medicine and continues to play an important role in advancing knowledge and promoting public health in Malaysia and beyond.

The society’s internationally acclaimed journal Tropical Biomedicine provides open access to the latest research and knowledge in the general sciences of parasitology, tropical medicine, entomology, and microbiology. Tropical Biomedicine a peer-reviewed and indexed in major scientific databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science.

The year 2024 marks the 60^th anniversary for the society and is a testament to the society’s commitment and dedication to the field of parasitology and tropical medicine in Malaysia and in the region. Celebrating the jubilee anniversary of the MSPTM in conjunction with the 21st International Congress of Tropical Medicine and Malaria is an excellent way to mark this important tribute to the society’s contributions to the field, and a great opportunity to highlight the latest developments in parasitology and tropical medicine to a global audience.
