WEATHER

Sarawak has an equatorial climate. The temperature is relatively uniform throughout the year – within the range of 23°C early in the morning to 32°C during the day. Humidity is consistently high in the lowlands ranging from 80 percent to 90 percent.

CURRENCY

Malaysian Ringgit (RM) – Travelers cheques and foreign currencies can be changed for Malaysian Ringgit at banks and hotels. Money changer kiosks are available at major shopping complexes and airport. Most major hotels charge a nominal fee for currency conversion. ATM machines are plentiful and located just about everywhere in Kuching.

ELECTRICITY

Voltage is 220 – 240 Volt AC at 50 cycles per second, adaptable to standard 3-pin square plugs and socket.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

Visitors must possess a valid passport or other internationally recognised travel documents endorsed for travelling to Malaysia, with a validity period of at least six (6) months beyond the time of stay allowed in Malaysia.

Visa requirements are dependent on the country of origin and last port of disembarkation before entering Malaysia. YELLOW FEVER CERTIFICATE

A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required from all visitors or delegates (Malaysians and Foreigners) coming from or going to/through countries with risk of Yellow Fever transmission (As stated in International Health Regulations 2005 and Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988).Yellow fever vaccination is also required for travellers having transited more than 12 hours through the airport of a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Travellers or delegates without a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate shall be quarantined upon arrival in Malaysia.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that all delegates take out their own travel and medical insurance prior to coming to the Conference. The policy should include loss of fees/ deposit through cancellation of your participation in the meeting, or through cancellation of the meeting itself, loss of airfares for any reason, medical expenses, loss or damage to personal property, additional expenses and repatriation should travel arrangements have to be altered. Neither the meeting secretariat nor the organising committee will take any responsibility for any participant failing to insure. Please speak to your travel agent or airline regarding this matter.

Travel from the airport to the city centre

Kuching International Airport (KIA) is approximately 11 kilometres (7 miles) from the heart of Kuching. The travel duration by car or taxi typically takes around 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

By Airport Taxi/Limousine

Ticket counters are available inside at the arrival hall. From Kuching International Airport to city centre takes about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the traffic situation.
